Hey girl, here’s the deal! Get ready to dive into the world of Christian Dior as we spill the tea on their latest collection and the makeup magic behind it. New designer, new era—and that includes a fresh take on beauty. Let’s chat with Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director of Christian Dior Makeup, about his vision for Jonathan Anderson’s debut at Dior.
The show opened with a cinematic bang, featuring a massive LED screen suspended from the ceiling, setting the stage for Anderson’s mix of signature styles and Dior codes. For makeup, Philips was determined to keep it fresh, embracing a spring feeling without making a bold statement. Think natural glow and enhancing each model’s unique beauty—the perfect embodiment of a fresh start.
Philips and his team relied on hero products like the Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation and concealer, Dior Addict Lip Glow Butter in Toffee, and the Dior Backstage Rosy Glow Blush Stick in either Berry or Rosewood, depending on the models’ skin tone. To achieve that radiant, skin-like finish, Philips started with a layer of Capture Totale serum and moisturizer before applying foundation and blush in thin layers. He then used a soft brush to blend them together for a nuanced glow on the cheeks.
Working with Anderson felt effortless for Philips, especially as they both aligned on the fresh makeup vision, even opting to skip mascara. “I just curled the lashes and placed the darkest shade in the Diorshow 5 Couleurs palette into the roots of the lashes to give an intensity without looking too made up,” he adds.
💫 On the runway, mascara can become less cool, while for red carpet events, it adds that extra oomph.
So, what’s the deal with the no-mascara trend? Philips believes there’s a difference between catwalk looks and front-row looks. On the runway, mascara can become less cool, while for red carpet events, it adds that extra oomph. Imagine those long lace dresses and sheer gowns with full-on mascara—it would be too much!
Makeup, according to Philips, must exist within a context, as even the slightest tweak in color can alter a look’s meaning and intention. The goal for this collection was simplicity: fresh, natural, and embracing each model’s unique beauty.
Now, here’s where we need your input! What do you think of the no-mascara trend? Would you rock it on the runway or reserve it for everyday wear? Let us know in the comments below!
