Okay but like WHY is no one talking about my skincare chaos? I’m the girl with dry, acne-prone, sensitive, type 2 rosacea skin who’s been seeing a dermatologist for 3 years and still feels like my face is in a never-ending game of Whack-a-Mole. My skin’s like a mood swing — one day it’s glowing, the next it’s red, flaky, and crying for mercy. I know no one’s skin is flawless, but I feel like I should be able to dial in my routine better than this. Enter: my skincare chaos, which I’m basically begging for help with.

Let me break it down. My AM routine is basically a med school exam: prequel gleanser or cocokind milky cleanser, then azelaic acid 15% (prescription), metronidazole 0.75% (also prescription), and vanicream moisturizer. PM? Prequel pre-gleanse oil (as needed), the same cleanser, prequel half and half fluid moisturizer, tretinoin 0.05%, and Rhode barrier butter. Oh, and I’m on 125mg spironolactone daily to keep my chin acne at bay. But here’s the kicker: I can’t handle niacinamide. Every time I try it, my skin flips out.

Last month, I tried switching things up. I washed with just water in the AM (because winter is a nightmare for my dry skin) and used an oil cleanser at night to “make up” for the skipped wash. It didn’t make things worse, but nothing improved either. I’m stuck in this loop of “okay but like, why isn’t this working?” My skin’s like, “I’m fine, but I’m also not.”

I know everyone has bad days, but I feel like my consistent lineup of products should at least stabilize things. I’m basically a skincare robot, but my face is still throwing me curveballs. Any advice on how to fix this chaos? Or have you been through the same?

❓ People Also Ask

Should I use a toner every day?

Yes, use toner daily to balance skin pH and prep skin for moisturizer. It helps remove residual cleanser and improves product absorption.

How often should I exfoliate my face?

Exfoliate 1-2 times weekly to remove dead skin cells. Over-exfoliating can irritate skin, so stick to a gentle routine.
