Okay so like, I’ve always been a lotion girl—until I got obsessed with mousses. After testing 20+ foamy formulas, I ditched lotions for good. Mousses give a more natural finish, let you see exactly where you’ve applied them, and often hydrate just as well. But not all mousses are created equal—some leave streaks, ashy undertones (hello, olive skin), or fade faster than a summer fling. Until now, my holy grail was the Dolce Glow Lusso Self-Tanning Mousse (which also won a 2025 Allure Best of Beauty Award). But its eight-hour development time? Sigh. So when Dolce Glow dropped an express version that works in two hours, I was like, “Wait, is this real?” And then I tested it. Spoiler: I was wrong.
The Express version is basically the Lusso’s cooler, more efficient cousin. While the original takes eight hours to develop, this one does it in two (for a light tan) or four (for a deeper glow). No need to binge-watch your favorite show while marinating in self-tanner. It’s powered by DMI, a bio-based solvent that makes the tanning actives absorb smoothly without streaks. The formula also packs glycerin, avocado oil, and prickly pear seed oil to keep your skin hydrated, plus sugarcane exfoliants to buff away dead skin. Compared to the Lusso, which already has jojoba and macadamia oil, the Express even has more nourishing ingredients to offset its faster development time.
Applying it was a breeze. I exfoliated first (no body oil or moisturizer), then used a mitt to spread the mousse in circular motions. For drier spots like my elbows, I applied less, and for my hands/feet, I only used the excess on the mitt to avoid buildup. My back? I used a towel applicator and got zero streaks. The color developed gradually, so I rinsed it off after two hours (or up to four for a deeper tan). The result? A natural, sun-kissed glow that could’ve fooled anyone into thinking I’d just returned from a beach trip. Bonus: No self-tanner smell—just a light floral scent that’s way more enjoyable.
Key points: 1. The Express version is a game-changer for busy days (I’ve been there). 2. Prep is key—exfoliate, skip moisturizer, and use a mitt. 3. It’s long-lasting and smells way better than most tanners.
💫 So, would you trade your eight-hour tan for a two-hour one.
