Here’s the deal: Area, the iconic NYC party-girl label, is shaking things up with their latest collection. And let me tell you, it’s a wild ride that’ll make you want to dance all night long!

The new creative director, Nicholas Aburn, isn’t just playing around – he’s got some serious fashion credentials, having worked at Tom Ford and Balenciaga. But don’t worry, he’s not losing the brand’s fun, quirky vibe. He wants to keep it flattering and fabulous while still being relatable.

So what can we expect from this new era of Area? Think Carrie Bradshaw meets Miami club rats, with a dash of Leigh Bowery and Rihanna thrown in for good measure. The first look was all about a laid-back, street-style vibe, with a black hoodie, strappy tank top, and cargo pedal-pushers – perfect for hitting up your local bodega or dancing the night away at Baby Grand.

But don’t worry, Area-isms are still very much present. Crystal hoop earrings, shoelace earrings, up-to-there skirts in denim and taffeta – it’s all there. But Aburn is also embracing the low-key side of Area with pieces like an upside-down slip dress, a relaxed black tuxedo skirt, and a navy satin hoodie.

💫 As he said, “It’s taking these references to something glam and kind of f*cking it up a bit, but not so much that you don’t see the hot.

Aburn balanced the couture and camp with the reality of needing a sexy minidress. As he said, “It’s taking these references to something glam and kind of f*cking it up a bit, but not so much that you don’t see the hot.” Other pieces that fit the “hot” bill include crystal-embellished pointelle bodysuits and his excellent denim offerings – perfect for any club girl who wants to slay on a budget.

As the show progressed, so did the severity of the looks. The all-black run had a sense of danger or something that a good party has. It’s chaotic, exactly what you want from a night out in NYC. And then came the grand finale – richly realized pure fashion, including a bandage-style crystal dress, a massive gift-topping ribbon mini, a campy sequin dress, and a broken-glass confetti New York T-shirt.

These final pieces were inspired by pure imagination and classic New York happenstance. Aburn saw a wedding by their studio and thought, “Man, confetti makes you happy. You look at confetti and you feel happy.” And that’s exactly what he wanted – to make us feel happy and excited about fashion again.
