So apparently, even after seeing five dermatologists, doing a full course of Accutane, and basically becoming a skincare guru, my face still looks like a post-argument with a toddler. Redness, texture, and those pesky post-acne marks? Still here, baby. I’m not mad—just confused. I’ve tried topical acids, retinoids, antibiotics, cleansers, actives, and strict routines. My lifestyle? Clean eating, water, exercise, and sleep. So why isn’t my skin finally finally glowing?
Let me break it down: I’ve been overloading my routine with actives. Think about it—azelaic acid, retinoids, niacinamide, exfoliants. It’s like my face is a science lab. But maybe my skin needs a break from the chaos. I’m currently using a morning routine with gentle cleanser, azelaic acid, moisturizer, and sunscreen. At night, oil cleanser, gentle cleanser, azelaic acid, and moisturizer. But I’m thinking of adding exfoliant every 2 days and niacinamide every 3 days. Is this overkill? Or is my skin just craving a reset?
Here’s the thing: skincare is like a relationship. You can’t text your face 10 times a day and expect it to reply. My skin’s probably tired of the drama. Maybe I’m not using the right actives for my skin type. Azelaic acid is great for redness, but what about hyaluronic acid for hydration? Or vitamin C for that fresh, glowing finish? I’m also questioning if I’m exfoliating too much. Over-exfoliating can strip your skin’s barrier, leading to more redness and sensitivity.
Key points: 1) Don’t overload your routine—your skin needs a break from the actives. 2) Balance exfoliation with hydration and soothing ingredients. 3) Consistency matters, but so does listening to your skin’s needs.

Why isn’t my skin improving despite my routine?
Your routine may lack consistency or target the right concerns. Check for product compatibility, over-exfoliation, or underlying issues like stress or diet.
What if my skin still doesn’t improve?
Consult a dermatologist to rule out medical conditions. They can adjust your routine or prescribe treatments for acne, eczema, or other skin issues.
